Customs Regulations

Household Effects

Used household effects are duty free if the client has had them in their possession for more than 1 year. The consignments are not always stopped for customs examination. Customs take approximately 11 working days to clear the consignment. The client must present himself to Customs with all documentation.

Personal Effects

The consignment must consist of clothing only, ie no appliances. These consignments are always stopped for customs examination and take approximately 11 working days to clear. Client must present himself to Customs with all documentation. NB: All linen, books, tape recorders will be treated as household effects.

Vehicles

VAT is always payable. These consignments are stopped for customs examinations. Client should complete all documentation and present it to the Customs department, together with his passport so that Customs may attest the DA304A's. The documentation should be returned to us in order for clearance to take place. If everything is in order, Customs will endorse the Bill of Entry which is then presented to the Motor Licence Department, who will issue the licence. Approximately 11 working days to clear.

Pets and Animals

A Veterinary Certificate is required from the origin country. The Certificate must be presented to Customs at least 4 days prior to the animal's arrival in South Africa. It takes approximately 6 working days to clear. Quarantine is not always necessary, and the animal will be released if the State Veterinary Surgeon is satisfied with the condition of the animal.

Biddulphs' Inbound Controller will manage the movement of your consignment from arrival at the port of delivery to your new residence. We will guide you through the S A Customs requirements and handle the actual clearance through Customs for you. The delivery to your residence will be done by our own international team.
